What to do in case of emergency?

Anyone can call the paramedic services! If you need emergency medical care, call 112 and ask for the paramedics!

The universal emergency call number is 112 – by dialing this number, you can call for the paramedics in case of an emergency. 

In everyday language, the paramedic services and patient transport services are the same, although they are different entities with differing purposes and enlistment. 

In Hungary, the paramedic service is a form of emergency medical care which is available for everyone regardless of nationality or social security coverage.

The patient transport service is a form of medical service that ensures patients’ access to medical care, if neccessary. The service is accessible to people with social security coverage and it can be prescribed by physicians.

When to go to the emergency department?

In case of urgency, immediate action to provide help is everyone’s allegiance regardless of time and geographic location!

The universal emergency call number is 112 – by dialing this number, you can call for the paramedics in case of emergency.

Everyone is legally obliged to call an ambulance and start giving first aid if a person nearby needs help or emergency medical care. First aid must be given by the best of the helpers’ knowledge under the given circumstances with the given equipment.

Immediate medical care is needed in the following situations:

  • personal injuries caused by accidents;

  • in case of or suspecting a life-threatening situation;

  • having acute or alarming symptoms that may lead to persistent damage to health or prolonged recovery without getting immediate medical attention;

  • in obstetrics-related events (e.g. giving birth or complication during pregnancy);

  • if immediate medical treatment is needed to alleviate unappeasable pain or other acute symptoms;

  • acute confusion, including confusion caused by alcohol intoxication;

  • in other threatening situations
