In Hungarian law, working hour is defined as ‘the time designated for working, including preparation and finishing works related to the job.’ Transit to and from work doesn’t count in your working hours. Day shifts are between 6:00-22:00, and night shifts are between 22:00-7:00.
You can work in fix or flexible working time, meaning that you can schedule when you work as long as you reach the agreed working hours in your contract. The standard daily work rate is 8 hours, which can be expanded to 12 with the consent of the employee. Standard employment is 5 days a week, between Monday and Friday. This can be modified, however the maximum allowed work hours for a week are 48 hours. You may also work on Sundays, or national holidays, depending on your job.
A full time job generally is 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week. A part time job is less than a full-time job, with the amount of working hours set in the contract between employee and employer.
You are entitled to breaks during work. If you work at least 6 hours, you are entitled to 20 minutes, if you work more than 9 hours, you get an additional 25 minutes. These breaks can be used after at least 3 hours of work. You are entitled to at least 8 hours of rest between two shifts.
