What kind of visa do you need to work here?
What visa types allow me
to work in Hungary?
Those who plan
on working in Hungary must obtain the necessary visa or legal documents to work
in the country. There are different types of visas for different types of
people, depending on country of origin, field of work, education, etc. I will
cover three of the most used visas that you can work with.
1.
Residence
Permits
Who can
apply for a residence permit? Simple. All non-Hungarian citizens, with the
exception of EU/EEA citizens, who are planning on working/staying in the
country for more than 90 days can apply for this kind of visa. You can apply
for this permit at the representative in whose consular district you reside. If your application is approved, you can
collect your permit in Budapest, and they will affix a „Type D” visa. It is
valid for 2 years and it is renewable.

2.
EU
Blue card
You can
apply for EU Blue card if you are a third-country national, who intends to work
in a position requiring a high level of professional qualification(s), and has
professional qualification(s) in tertiary education required to perform his/her
job, or relevant high level of professional experience of a specified period of
time, or who is a holder of an EU Blue card issued by a Member State of the
European Union and has already legally resided in that Member State for at
least 12 months or has resided 6 months in a second Member State. To qualify for
EU Blue card you must have a salary of at least 1.5 times the average gross
annual salary in the Member State concerned. Which in 2025 is at least 883.671 HUF
per month. You can apply for this permit at the representative in whose
consular district you reside. It is valid for 4 years and it is renewable.

3.
ICT
permit
The
intra-corporate transferee permit (ICT) is for a transfer from a third-country
national company established in a third country to a company established in
Hungary, provided that the sending and receiving companies belong to the same
group of companies. You can apply for this permit at the representative in
whose consular district you reside. Its validity period is at least 91 days and
a maximum of 3 years.
