What visa types allow me to work in Hungary?

What kind of visa do you need to work here?

What visa types allow me to work in Hungary?

Those who plan on working in Hungary must obtain the necessary visa or legal documents to work in the country. There are different types of visas for different types of people, depending on country of origin, field of work, education, etc. I will cover three of the most used visas that you can work with.

1.      Residence Permits

Who can apply for a residence permit? Simple. All non-Hungarian citizens, with the exception of EU/EEA citizens, who are planning on working/staying in the country for more than 90 days can apply for this kind of visa. You can apply for this permit at the representative in whose consular district you reside.  If your application is approved, you can collect your permit in Budapest, and they will affix a „Type D” visa. It is valid for 2 years and it is renewable.

Required documents:

·         Fully completed residence permit application form

·         Valid passport

·         2 passport-sized and color photos

·         Proof of comprehensive health insurance

·         Supporting documents for accommodation

·         Confirmation of financial resources

2.      EU Blue card

You can apply for EU Blue card if you are a third-country national, who intends to work in a position requiring a high level of professional qualification(s), and has professional qualification(s) in tertiary education required to perform his/her job, or relevant high level of professional experience of a specified period of time, or who is a holder of an EU Blue card issued by a Member State of the European Union and has already legally resided in that Member State for at least 12 months or has resided 6 months in a second Member State. To qualify for EU Blue card you must have a salary of at least 1.5 times the average gross annual salary in the Member State concerned. Which in 2025 is at least 883.671 HUF per month. You can apply for this permit at the representative in whose consular district you reside. It is valid for 4 years and it is renewable.

Required documents:

·         Documents proving the conditions of departure

·         1 passport-size colored photo

·         Documents proving accommodation in Hungary

·         Proof of comprehensive health insurance

3.      ICT permit

The intra-corporate transferee permit (ICT) is for a transfer from a third-country national company established in a third country to a company established in Hungary, provided that the sending and receiving companies belong to the same group of companies. You can apply for this permit at the representative in whose consular district you reside. Its validity period is at least 91 days and a maximum of 3 years.
